Everyone who is a fan should read this !!!! These are wise words that I wish I could “kindly” scream at the fanbases I’m a part of. Also I think Kim Namjoon would love this.
It's so refreshing to hear this perspective on this matter. I've been on both sides of internet culture, and unfortunately, I do recall a time in my early teen years when I wanted nothing more than to know every little dirty detail about the lives of my idols. I don't remember tweeting at them or tagging them in anything, never personally demanding content and personal details from them, but what I do remember doing is treating their personal lives as entertainment. I would dig through all their social media, and the social media of their friends and relatives, and even accounts that posted their deleted posts, just in hopes of finding more and more content about them. But if I were to do that to someone I know personally in real life, that would be SO weird!! Concerning, even! Thank goodness I've graduated to a more mature corner of the internet where the fans of these musicians, youtubers, wrestlers, actors, etc. have grown up and have learned to be much more respectful of (and just generally less interested in) the personal lives of those who they admire. Creepy, entitled fans have the power to spoil careers, friendships, relationships and more, and that is scary, but being aware of the fact that that behavior isn't cool is slowly but surely moving "fandom culture" into a better, healthier direction. Thanks for sharing your thoughts, Mikey!! I was just thinking of this topic the other day and I'm so glad you were able to put it into words so eloquently for me to read on this fine evening.
